Bill Mckibben is the author of the environmental classic, The End of Nature. This past fall, he created a national movement called Step It Up 2007, resulting in a day of hundreds of rallies in all fifty states for climate stability on November 3. One of the most important writers on business and the environment, his most recent book is Deep Economy: The Wealth of Communities and the Durable Future. Celebrating its 37th year, the 2008 Houston International Festival  spotlights "Out of Africa: The Three Journeys" from April 19-20 & 26-27 with outstanding musical performances, art markets and craft demonstrations, interactive exhibits, free Friday lunchtime concerts (April 18th & 25th) and plenty of food and fun for all.

The Houston International Festival will continue its tradition as one of the largest presenters of world music anywhere on the planet. The 2008 event will feature hundreds of internationally acclaimed artists on 10 performance venues throughout the festival site.

Stretching across 16 acres of downtown parks and streets including City Hall, Bagby Street, and Tranquility and Sam Houston Parks, this year's outdoor event will feature six international entertainment-themed zones including WaMu Out of Africa, International, Target Kids, Latin, Louisiana and Jamaica presented by Jamaica Tourist Board.
