Undergraduate Degrees

Rice offers more than 50 undergraduate majors across six divisions of study. Students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree must complete a minimum of 120 semester hours.

The Bachelor of Science degree is offered in astrophysics, biochemistry and cell biology, chemistry, chemical physics, earth science, ecology and evolutionary biology and physics. The specific degree requirements and hours required vary from field to field.

Rice also offers a Bachelor of Science degree in various engineering fields. A Bachelor of Science degree in one of the branches of engineering, requires that students must pass no fewer than 134 semester hours. Specific degree and major requirements are listed in General Announcements and on individual department websites.

The professional Bachelor of Architecture degree requires a fifth year of study and a one-year preceptorship. The Bachelor of Music degree requires advanced courses in aural skills in addition to the core music curriculum.

For students interested in teaching in secondary schools, a program of teacher training leading to certification by the state of Texas may be completed together with one of the bachelor degrees. This program is administered by the http://www.ed.gov/.
