Academic Probation

Probation serves as an academic warning for students whose academic performance does not meet Rice’s requirement of good standing.

According to the General Announcements:

Students are placed on academic probation at the end of any semester if:

• their grade point average for that semester is less than 1.67, or

• their cumulative grade point average is less than 1.67 (this requirement is waived if the grade point average for that semester is at least 2.00).

The period of probation extends to the end of the next semester in which the student is enrolled. Students on probation (academic or disciplinary matters) may not be candidates for, or hold, any elected or appointed office, nor are they allowed to enroll in more than 17 semester hours.

For students who are on academic probation, please complete the Academic Performance Reflection Form. If you would like to discuss your reflection with one of the advisors in the Office of Academic Advising, please call x4060 or send an email to aadv@rice.edu.
