Roommates

Students are assigned to colleges by random selection. (Requests for a specific college will only be considered if the incoming student has a family legacy in that college.)

Students will receive their roommate assignments along with other orientation materials in the mail. Student staff for each college try to match freshman students according to similarities of interests, and every effort is made to ensure compatibility.

It is a good idea for roommates to contact each other before arriving at Rice: a preliminary conversation will make the first face-to-face meeting easier and will allow collaboration on what items each will bring. After the freshman year, students may choose a roommate from their college.
